Bonnie K. Sosbe, a woman whose life was woven with love, resilience, and a boundless devotion to family, passed away on April 19, 2026, in her beloved hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on October 10, 1956, Bonnie's journey was marked by a profound passion for sewing that blossomed into a lifelong craft and a testament to her creativity and care.
Bonnie’s hands brought to life many beautiful creations over the years. She dedicated over two decades to mastering the art of sewing as a seaming fabricator at Poster Display, expertly working on large banners and posters. Her talent extended to Fabritech, where she crafted horse saddles, harnesses, hot air balloons, and more. Her sewing was not just a profession but a passion that reflected her spirit. Her first quilt, completed in 1975 while pregnant with her eldest son, was only the beginning of countless quilts and lovingly handmade treasures she created for her family, especially her grandchildren.
Her family was indeed the center of Bonnie’s world. She was an extraordinary and supportive mother to her three children—David Allen Jones Jr., Robert William Jones, and Juanita Marie Swain—and a devoted wife to Donald L. Sosbe. Bonnie and Donald shared 41 years of marriage, a bond strengthened through love, laughter, and hardship, including the final, tender days when she cared for him as he bravely battled cancer until his passing in March 2026. Bonnie’s nurturing spirit extended as well to her extended family, including her siblings Rick Smock, Randy Smock, Mary Diauto, Carrie Despain,Vickie Toomey and Cindy Yocum, all who cherished her vibrant presence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. and Carol M. Smock, as well as siblings Earl Smock, Linda Floreke, and Terrie Pettigrew.
Her home was always full of warmth, tying family and tradition beautifully together. Bonnie delighted in hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations, where her famous homemade baked macaroni and cheese became a beloved comfort for all who gathered. She treasured lunch dates shared with her sisters, nieces, and daughter, moments that brimmed with laughter and connection. A lover of life’s simple joys, Bonnie had a green thumb and relished time spent tending her garden. She found happiness in playing bingo, singing karaoke during the spirited days of the early '90s, and dancing with a lightness of heart.
Beyond her unwavering commitment to her family, Bonnie was a caregiver and a helper at heart, always ready to offer support to anyone in need. Despite facing the immense challenge of throat cancer, first diagnosed in 2003, Bonnie lived with remarkable courage. Though she endured multiple treatments and surgeries and battled the disease again in 2007, her spirit remained steadfast through over two decades of illness. Her joy shone brightest when she was with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren—10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren—often hosting joyful slumber parties and filling their lives with love.
Bonnie’s legacy is one of strength, tenderness, and relentless devotion. Her cherished family, along with all who knew her, carry forward the warmth of her kindness, the beauty of her art, and the depth of her love. Indianapolis has lost a truly special soul, but her threads of love and memory are forever woven into the fabric of those she touched. Bonnie K. Sosbe, a masterful seamstress of life and love, will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood Chapel.
