Bonnie Maxine Smith

Bonnie M. Smith, 99, of Greenwood, IN passed away August 29, 2026. She was born February 23, 1927 in Boone County, IN, surprising her parents on the day they moved, thereafter lovingly referred to as The Home Place. She was the 6th child of 12 to Russell and Susie (Boxwell) Ramsey. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings Marvin, Wilbur, Wilburta, Martha, Richard, Helen, Mary, Joseph, Catherine, Samuel, grandson Scott and great-grandson, Jacob.

Bonnie married Bob (John Robert) Smith in 1945 while he was in the Navy during WWII. They celebrated 70 years of marriage before Bob passed away in 2015. Bonnie is survived by her four children Ret (David) Yeager, Linda (Doug) Zapp, Denny, Phil, eight grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, sister Orpha Wyant, sisters-in-law Betty Smith, Beverly Ramsey and several nieces and nephews.

Bonnie was a wonderful homemaker who loved her family dearly. Many vacations over the years were spent with family members, often playing euchre far into the night. She was devoted to Castleton United Methodist Church, and made sure her family knew Jesus was her savior. She was also an "Avon Lady" well into her 90's, a member of their President's Club every year. She was talented with a crochet hook, having made full size afghans for each of her great-grandchildren as well as numerous scarves and blankets for all of her family. She enjoyed playing euchre and bingo at Greenwood Meadows where she resided the last year and a half. She followed and enjoyed all of the endeavors of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other family members. She would tell you she was most proud of them all for being good students and making good grades. She wanted to reach that 100th year, but God’s celebration in Heaven will be far greater.

Special thanks to the nurses, aides and other staff members at Greenwood Meadows for their loving and attentive care of Bonnie.

Services will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026 at Indiana Funeral Care located at 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250. Visitation will be held from 10am to 11am with a service to follow at 11am. A graveside service will take place after the service at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown, IN beginning at 1pm.
