Beverly Ann Metzger

Beverly Ann (Junken) Metzger, 94, passed away on December 28, 2022, in Indianapolis, IN. Beverly was born in a farm house on November 18, 1928  northwest of Rushville, IN  to Virgil and Lillian Junken, her family later moved to Rushville, then to Arlington, then to Indianapolis.

Beverly graduated in 1946 from Arsenal Technical High School.  She received the Stenographic Excellence Award for the best of 102 students and won the 4-Year Latin Award.  She graduated in the top 10% of her class and received a scholarship to Butler University. She was in two sororities, Kappa Beta and Trianon and was a Scarlet Quill scholastic honoree her senior year.  She graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Beverly started her career as a secretary to executives of advertising agencies locally then in New York City. Back home again in Indiana she managed membership records for the Indiana State Dental Association for 11 years, then a comptroller with Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society for 18 years, retiring in 1995. 

Beverly married William T. Metzger in the early 1950s and their twins Dawn and Brian were born a couple of years later.   She was a hardworking, responsible parent of courage as she raised them on her own.  Her efforts included being a den mother for son's Cub Scout den and secretary for his Boy Scout troop as well as recordkeeper for daughter's Cadette Girl Scout troop.   All were active members of Northwood Christian Church 20-45 years. 

Beverly enjoyed her cats throughout her life.  Hobbies included crossword puzzles, and in earlier years making clothes and cultivating a large vegetable garden for many years.  Favorite singer Frank Sinatra.   Favorite tune In The Mood 

Beverly is survived by children Dawn Wafford and Brian Metzger, granddaughter Michelle Mannweiler, grandson Paul Wafford all of Indianapolis, and by granddaughter Kristin Wafford of Gilbert, Arizona.

Beverly is preceded in death by Virgil Junken - father, Lillian Junken - mother, Martha Capasso - sister, Virginia Callahan - sister.  

The service for Beverly Metzger will be held on Thursday, January 5 at 11:00 AM at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W. Moore Chapel.

Visitation: Thursday, at 10:00 AM at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W. Moore Chapel.

Burial: Arlington East Hill Cemetery

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Salvation Army and Wounded Warriors.
