Betty McLeod

March 3, 1925 — December 31, 2019

Betty McLeod, 94, of Indianapolis, passed away on December 31, 2019.
She was born on March 3, 1925 to Ralph A. and Genevieve McLeod. They preceded her in death along with her only brother, Phillip M. McLeod.

Betty was an Indiana University graduate and Master’s Degree recipient from Vermont College for Women, where she received a Distinguished Graduate award. Ms. McLeod taught Spanish, English, and Latin and was held in high regard by both faculty and students. She began her teaching career at Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis and went on to teach at Evanston High School in Evanston, Illinois. Betty maintained many friendships from each of these schools with both coworkers and students,and received many loving cards and notes over the years.

Betty loved her church and church family. She especially valued her Great Banquet Reunion Group. Close friends from this group greatly helped Betty in her recent years.

She had a great love for the Lord and for people, which was reflected in her winsome ways and wonderful smile. Betty had a sincere heart for both missionaries and the people they served. She traveled to the most remote tribal areas deep in South America, as well as deep into rural parts of Mexico and Africa, being a help and encouragement to all.

Betty was truly a philanthropist and has been honored by numerous ministries and academic institutions over the years. She was also an artist, singing in numerous Choirs and vocal groups. In addition, Betty was also a talented water color artist. She displayed and contributed her work to benefit many.

Betty truly appreciated her friends and the care she received at Hoosier Village the past several years.

A Celebration of Life was held in Betty's memory at Second Presbyterian Church on January 24th.
