Betty graduated Boswell High School in Class of 1945. While in high school, and part-time after graduation, she was a telephone operator for Western Telephone. In high school she was a member of Indiana Order of Rainbow for Girls, which she held a position of grand worthy associate adviser at the State level. After high school she took the Civil Service exam and was offered a position with the Department of Navy in Washington, DC. She was one of the founding members of the Boswell American Legion Auxiliary.

If you knew Betty, you knew her passion was singing. If there was a tune anywhere, she would put the words to it. Betty performed in several plays in the Benton County Theatre group. Her favorite was playing Aunt Eller in Oklahoma. She was a member of the Benton County Chorus with numerous performances at Purdue and the Indiana State Fair. For fun, a group from Boswell formed a kitchen band, Young at Heart. They visited many retirement centers in the area. She also sang at several weddings and was a member of the Boswell Church of Christ choir. Recently, she has been asked to sing for residents and staff at the retirement center where she resided. They loved to hear her voice.

Services will be held Thursday March 7th at the Boswell Church of Christ. Visitation from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, services following. Internment will be at the Boswell Cemetery following the service. Thank you to Indiana Funeral Care of Indianapolis their assistance in arranging the services.      A very special thank you to the nurses, aides and staff at American Village in Indianapolis for the loving care they gave to “grandma”. She always felt at home.
