Betty graduated in 1962 from Albion High School and attended two years of Gulf Coast Bible College in Houston, TX. She was a music major and toured the Midwest as the pianist for the singing trio group, the Evangelenes. While in college, she married her partner in life, Francis L. “Bud” Coleman on August 1st 1965.
The couple resided in Albion, NE where they raised their two daughters, Sherri and Shelli. Betty kept gospel music as a central part of her life as the church pianist and the couple sang for a variety of special events. They created life long friendships and spent many evenings with friends singing around the piano.
In 1979 they moved to Gordon, NE where they were called to be Worship Leaders at the Gordon Church of God and also took on the role of leading the youth ministry. Betty worked at the Gordon Public schools as secretary.
In 1990 they moved to Indianapolis, IN where she found her dream job working at Christian Missionary Fellowship (CMF) as an administrative assistant in the Member Care Division. She was employed with CMF for 25 years and loved serving missionaries through her various roles. She was fortunate to travel to Indonesia as part of her job.
She attended Faith Church in Indianapolis for 18 years and served in Awana and Faith International English Classes. She loved her Awana kids and FIEC women. She enjoyed serving her friends and church community through cooking, catering and teaching women how to bake and preserve food..
In 1982 Betty was diagnosed with thyroid cancer which started a life-long journey of health issues. In 1984 after an eight-month pregnancy filled with complications she gave birth to a stillborn son. The 1990’s were filled with physical pain and the loss of her singing voice. In the 2000’s she was diagnosed with Addison’s Disease and Cerebellar Ataxia. These diseases eroded her independence, but grew her dependence on God. In her personal testimony of faith, she said, “God put me on my back to make me look up and trust Him and I suspect He will continue growing my faith until the day He makes my body perfect.”
