Bertha L. Smith-Aldridge, 88, of Edwards, Mississippi, went home to be with the Lord on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2026, in Indianapolis.
A Time to Live & Love
Bertha was born in Edwards, Mississippi, to Ruther and Annie Bell Smith on November 14, 1937. On August 9, 2000, she married James Aldridge.
Bertha had many things she loved to do—cooking, shopping, chatting with friends and family, and attending Promise Land Christian Community Church, where she served as a faithful member for many years. She was well known for her caring heart and always loved visiting friends and taking care of others. Up until recently, she enjoyed her independence and drove wherever she wanted to go.
Although Bertha was a private person, she opened her heart and home to everyone, always showing a beautiful spirit of hospitality. She was firm yet encouraging, lovingly frank, and wonderfully funny. She never failed to bring laughs and smiles to those around her. Bertha dearly loved her friends, her family, and, above all, the Lord. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her!

Bertha is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Aldridge; her parents, Ruther and Annie Bell Smith; and her 13 brothers and sisters.
