Benito Alcala Torres, 92, from Nappanee, IN, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, in Noblesville, IN. He was born on June 1, 1933, in Mexico. He was married to Maria (Mary) Torres, and they spent 65 years together.
Benito will be remembered as a rascally husband and father, who always tried to have fun and live his life the way he wanted. Benito had a unique personality and was head strong in his convictions. He was a jokester and often made people laugh with his stories and perspective on life. Benito was a hard worker, and always made sure his family was taken care of. He was proud to be an American citizen and cherished his Mexican roots.
Benito was an animal lover and was a proud cat guy. He loved his cats and had a soft spot for all kinds of animals. Whether it was a duck he rehabbed in his bathtub or the occasional opossum that he would let in through his cat door.
He was a self-taught mechanic, loved fixing and repairing vehicles and could fix just about anything. If you live in Nappanee, you may have seen him rolling up to Martin’s Grocery store in his limo at one time or another.
He is survived by his daughter, Belinda (Kara) Alwine-Torres and his granddaughter, Adyson Alwine.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Torres and his son Benito Torres Jr.
Lastly, “Cheesus” will always be in his heart.
