Barbara Ann Wallace (Bastin), 85, of Vincennes, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2026, in Indianapolis. Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her, the memories she created, the lives she touched, and the love she gave so freely will forever remain.

Barbara was born on June 6, 1941, in Monticello, Indiana, to Dr. John George Bastin and Mary Elizabeth Bastin (Krack). She spent her early years in Monticello, where she attended school before beginning a lifelong journey of learning and service. She attended Indiana University for two years, majoring in Speech and Hearing Therapy, where she was also a proud member of the Alpha Omicron Pi (AOII) sorority. She later transferred to the University of Florida, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education. Her passion for learning continued as she went on to earn a Master of Arts degree from Roosevelt University and another Master of Arts degree from the University of Chicago.

Barbara devoted much of her life to helping others. Alongside Mrs. Beverly Brown, she founded Riverfront Counseling Center in Vincennes, where she worked as a social worker, offering guidance, compassion, and support to those who needed it. Her commitment to caring for others extended beyond her profession, as she was also an active member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Vincennes.

While Barbara accomplished much throughout her life, her greatest joy was always her family. She was a woman whose love was shown not only through words, but through the countless little things she did every day to make sure the people she loved were happy, comfortable, and cared for. She was happiest when surrounded by family, whether gathered around a holiday table, cheering from the sidelines at a sporting event, or simply enjoying time together.

An avid reader, Barbara found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved tending to her garden, watching her children and grandchildren participate in sporting events, and making her home a welcoming place for everyone. Holidays held a particularly special place in her heart. She loved decorating her home for every occasion and making each holiday feel magical and memorable for her family. Her thoughtfulness, generosity, and selflessness were evident in everything she did. Barbara had a way of putting others before herself, always making sure everyone else was taken care of, often without ever asking for anything in return.

To those who knew her, Barbara was so much more than a mother, grandmother, sister, or friend. She was a source of comfort, a steady presence, and someone whose love could

always be counted on. Her home, her traditions, and the memories she created will continue to bring warmth to the hearts of her family for generations to come. Though she will be deeply missed, the lessons she taught, the kindness she shared, and the love she gave will never be forgotten.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. John George Bastin and Mary Elizabeth Bastin (Krack); her brothers, Norman Jullian Bastin and David Joseph Bastin; and her son, John Robert Wallace.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer A. Wallace of Vincennes; her grandchildren, Greyson and Tyler Wallace of Indianapolis, and Alexandria and Skye Krise of Shelbyville; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She also leaves behind her dear sorority sisters and lifelong friends, Marsha Landon and Linda Hicks, whom she met during her time at Indiana University. The friendships they shared throughout the years remained a special part of her life.

A private visitation for immediate family was held on Monday, November 2, 2026. Following the visitation, Barbara was laid to rest alongside her beloved parents at Riverview Cemetery in Monticello.

The family of Barbara wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Yoko Swanson of Cedar Creek, Washington, and all the staff at the facility for their kindness and compassionate care. The family would also like to sincerely thank all of the doctors, nurses, and hospice team members of Community Health Network who cared for Barbara. Your compassion, dedication, and support will always be remembered and appreciated.

Though Barbara may no longer be with us in person, the love she gave, the traditions she created, and the memories she leaves behind will live on in the hearts of her family forever. She spent her life taking care of the people she loved, and that love will continue taking care of them long after her passing.
