Artemio Matta Marquez peacefully went to be with Jesus Christ on September 23, 2026, at the age of 77. He was surrounded by his family as our Lord and Savior welcomed him with open arms. Tony was a faithful and exemplary follower of Jesus, modeling the Fruits Of the Spirit, great integrity, and exceptional humility. He was also a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, tio, & friend to many.

    Tony was born March 9, 1949, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He grew up on his grandfather's ranch, where he enjoyed riding horses and tending to the daily responsibilities (or making his older brother, Amado, do it). Residing there until he was 13, he then moved to Hollister, California with his family around 1962. Tony was drafted into the United States Army in 1969 and served up to 1971 as a field medic. After his time in active duty, he worked as a bus mechanic at North Central High School. Ultimately, he took employment as a supervisor at Wonder Bread/Hostess Cake Bakery in 1973. Tony became a pillar to the company as a problem-solver and a great leader. He succeeded there for 39 years until the bakery closed its doors, when he put the last loaf of bread on the line. Tony joined Carla in marriage on November 3, 1979. They were residents of Morristown, IN, for 34 years where they began to build their beautiful legacy. He became a U.S. citizen in 1986. Tony loved quality time with his family, traveling, tinkering on his '57 Chevy (Gloria, the other gal in his life), and strolling through the flower gardens at their home. There is no doubt Tony was met with a beloved crown and the best words: "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

    Tony is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carla Marquez; his children & their spouses: Kim (Bobby) Brown, Scott (Tabitha) Marquez, & Erica Newton; grandchildren & their spouses: Brittney (Kevin) Bordenkircher, Adrian Marquez, Evan (Adrian) Brown, Olivia Brown, Cidney (Alex) Mil, Claire Newton, Isabella Marquez, Ava Newton, Gabriela Marquez, Lucy Gosnell, Tinley Gosnell, Asher Newton, & Callen Newton; great-grandchildren: Josephine Bordenkircher, Petra Bordenkircher, Ruby Mil, & Carmen Mil; sons-in-law: Adam Newton & Darrel Gosnell; siblings: Amado Marquez, Silvia (George) Marquez, Luis (JoAnn) Marquez, James (Soledad) Marquez, Armando (Sandra) Marquez, Socorro Marquez, & Martha Marquez; brothers-in-law: Marlin (Angie) Parke & Maurice Parke; & many nephews and nieces.

    He is preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Petra Marquez; mother-in-law, Madeline "Sugar" Parke; brother-in-law, George Torres; sisters-in-law, Helen Marquez & Carolyn Parke.

    Visitation will be held at Indiana Funeral Care North, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250, on October 1, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location on October 1, 2026, at 1:00 pm followed by Military Funeral Honors.

    Tony will be laid to rest in Marion National Cemetery, 1700 East 38 Street, Marion, IN on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 11:00am.
