Andrew James Hornyak Obituary

September 15, 1953 - May 5, 2026

Andrew James Hornyak, 72, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5th, 2026 at home with loved ones after a long-yet-strong battle with cancer.

Born on September 15th, 1953, in Flint, Michigan, Andy was the only son of Julius Hornyak and Lois Hornyak (Fisher). Growing up in Hazel Crest, Illinois, he attended Hillcrest High School and went to work at Panduit Corporation directly after graduation.

Andy spent the bulk of his working years as a car salesman, where—despite often despising the industry—he was known for his honest approach, kind disposition, sense of humor, and always looking out for those that needed it.

Outside of work, Andy was a passionate Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears fan, Chicago Cubs hater, an avid golfer, and a dedicated family man. He enjoyed fishing and enjoying the outdoors, hours of loud music from his hi-fi audio system, and catching a sports game whenever possible. More than anything, he especially enjoyed quality time (with the occasional cold beer or two) on a summer’s evening with friends and family, always bringing a relaxed disposition wherever he went.

Andy is survived by his loving spouse of 48 years, Linda Hornyak (Vrshek); his son Matthew Hornyak and his wife Nicole. He is also survived by his sister Susan Knutson, nephew Eric Knutson, and nieces Joanna Rowell (Knutson), Jessica Fox (Knutson), and Suzanne Vrshek-Schallhorn (Vrshek) and loving pug Gracie. He was preceded in death by his parents Julius and Lois Hornyak.

In lieu of any flowers, Andy wished that donations be made in his memory to Cross and Crown Lutheran Church.
