Amanda Juanita Stanford, 89, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born in Charlotte, Tennessee to the late Gladys Hibernia Jackson. After the death of her mother, she was raised by her loving Aunt Amanda and warmhearted Uncle James, both of whom she loved dearly. She treasured being raised with her cousins and fondly referred to them as "sister cousins." Being raised in a Christian home, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at a young age.
When the family relocated to Indianapolis, she attended Thomas Carr Howe High School and graduated in 1955. While still in high school, Amanda Juanita worked part time at a nursing home in Irvington, it was there she developed a love for nursing and was inspired to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. During her over 30 year nursing career she worked at various hospital and finished her nursing career at Methodist Hospital, where she worked for 25 years.
Amanda Juanita was united in holy matrimony to Enoch Samuel Van Horn, Jr. in March of 1963. That union was blessed with two children, Samuel Tyrone Van Horn and Denise Lynette Van Horn. She was a faithful member of Sunrise Baptist Church and attended regularly until her health failed.
Amanda Juanita later married Charles Lee Stanford and remained married until his death in 2008. She and Charles enjoyed traveling and built many fond memories together. They both enjoyed cooking and developed a passion for cooking together. However, no one could match her ability to make a cake from a box of cake mix taste like homemade from scratch.
She was predeceased by Aunt Amanda and Uncle James; her sons, Victor Leonard Jackson and John Calvert McIntyre; grandson, Victor Glenn; brother, Willis Jackson; sister, Mable Norsweather; and devoted husband, Charles Lee Stanford.
Amanda Juanita's life and memories will forever be cherished by her children' Samuel Tyrone (Rosemary), Denise Lynette, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew, cousins and a host of friends.
