Alan J. Kammeyer, (74), of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on the morning of March 29, 2024 after a brief illness.

Alan was born to Irvin and Valona Kammeyer, on November 15,1949, in Covington, Kentucky. He lived his early life in Sunman, Indiana where he attended Sunman high school and graduated in 1968. He later moved to Tennessee where he attended East Tennessee State University where he received his bachelor's degree as well as his Masters Degree. Alan lived the majority of his life in Houston, Texas where he met his wife Ellie and was an English teacher for Stevenson Middle School.

Alan loved being a teacher and educator, and was lovingly known as Mr. K. He took great care in his students education and it was important to him to instill his love of the English language and literature. Alan was a man of strong faith. He attended Second Baptist Church, where he acted as a Deacon. He provided many services for the community as well as the members of the church.

Alan had many titles in his life, from Son to Brother, Teacher to Deacon, but his best role was being a husband and father. He was a lover of all kinds of music and was an avid collector of books. He enjoyed many sports including baseball and basketball, but baseball was his great love.

Alan is survived by his wife of 27 years, Elida Garcia Kammeyer, Indianapolis, IN; his children, Jami Lathum, (45), of West Union, Iowa and Travis Kammeyer, (43), of Johnson City, TN; as well as 3 grandchildren, and 1 great-grand child; his sister, Lynn Kiger, of Indianapolis, IN; and his niece Kelli Henson, of New Orleans, LA.

The family has chosen to have a private grave-side service for immediate family. He will be interred at the St. Paul Cemetery, Sunman Indiana on April 27th 2024.
