Adam Michael Bowman

December 20, 1976 — March 6, 2024

Indianapolis

Adam Michael Bowman, 47, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on March 6, 2024, at home. He was born to David Yates and Marti (Mingus) Yates and raised by his adopted father, Bob Bowman, Jr. After completing his education, Adam worked for much of his life in catering and restaurants.

Adam will be remembered by his family as a loving son, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend who had many joys in life. He loved music: listening to it, talking about it, and playing it on guitar or drums. He was an avid reader, and two of his favorite authors were Robert Jordan and J.R.R. Tolkien.

He also had a passion for food and was a fantastic chef. He was known to show his love and friendship by preparing delicious meals to share. He was kind, generous, talented, creative, fun-loving, and devoted to those he loved.

Adam was also kind and generous to others who were experiencing similar circumstances as he himself was.  He didn’t hesitate to share whatever he had. He also loved animals, especially dogs and cats. And somehow those creatures always knew they had found a friend in Adam.

Adam was also brave. He fought the disease of addiction and depression for many decades. He persevered out of the cycle of addiction and poverty more than once, and we are proud of the courage he showed. Ultimately, he lost his battle. We wish we could have convinced him to fight another round.

Adam is survived by his parents father, Robert Bowman, Jr.; mother, Marti Bowman; brother, Benjamin (Maria Chemello) Bowman; sister, Victoria “Tori” (Jason) Wenger; nephews and niece, Donavin, Lauren, and Elias, and aunt, Anna Mingus.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Robert Sr. and Dorothy Bowman, grandmothers, Patricia Mingus, and Thelma Yates, father, David Yates, niece, Amelia Wenger, and aunt, Lorna (Bowman) Yonan.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Adam’s name to Southside Animal Shelter. They can be found on Facebook, where they accept donations through PayPal.
