Wandra Dee Mallory

September 22, 1966 — August 7, 2020

Wandra Dee Mallory was born on September 22, 1966 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Joeann Holland and Hugo Daniel “HD” Mallory.

Wandra was born into a blended family where she was the ninth of ten children. Often called Cupcakes or Black Mariah as terms of endearment by her father, Wandra was a happy and vibrant child. She found a love for music early on that she never outgrew. She loved to sing, dance and watch musicals. She shined as a member of her family’s amateur singing group, “The Holland Choir” where they performed at her childhood church, Christ Church Holiness.

Wandra attended Manual High School in Indianapolis but did not finish with her class. This was something she always regretted and so many years later, she returned to school, motivated by her own sheer will, grit and spirit of tenacity and she successfully obtained her high school diploma. This was one of her proudest accomplishments.

Wandra had a big personality, a huge smile and a hearty laugh that could fill any room. She was direct and often said what was on her mind. People loved and appreciated her for her childlike honesty and frankness, never taking herself too seriously. She loved fashion, enjoyed shopping and had a confidence that would inspire others. She was generous to a fault, a giver by nature, always thinking of others and placing their needs above her own.

Wandra was an amazing cook, having learned at the hip of her mother. She enjoyed making meals for others since food was one of her love languages. She was an excellent writer, often best expressing her thoughts and feelings through poetry. One of her lifelong goals was to have her works published.

She is survived by her sisters Versina Holland, Sandra McKenzie (Ron), Norma Jean Perry, Darlene Scott and Barbara Russell; as well as her brothers Nathaniel Mallory (Marie), Daniel Mallory, Ronald Mitchell and Johnny Goodlow. She also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Wandra departed this life on Friday, August 7, 2020 at her home in Indianapolis, Indiana. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
