Robert Leo Roell

November 1, 1926 — March 3, 2022

Robert L. Roell Sr was born November 1st, 1926, to Robert H. Roell and Leona (Stegman) Roell in Indianapolis, Indiana. He passed away at the age of 95 at his home in Beech Grove, Indiana on March 3rd, 2022. He was a beloved husband of Wilma I. Bigler. She preceded him in death on October 1st, 2016, after 67 years of marriage. Theirs was a truly loving, dedicated partnership based on love and respect.
Robert is survived by eight children, Robert L. Roell Jr. (Jenny Roell), Charles E. Roell Sr. (Kil Kim), David P. Roell (Faith Roell), Deborah J. Harney, Christine M. Beck (Benjamin Sipes), James K. Roell (Fazlia Roell-Adam), Laura L. Terry (William Terry Jr.), and Cynthia L. Tyler (Jonathon Tyler).
Robert's oldest daughter, Candida A. Martin-Henry preceded him in death.
Robert, beloved brother, is survived by Pauline Weeks, Timothy Roell, and Ida (Dode) Roell sister-in-law.
Robert, dearly loved grandfather of 41 grandchildren, over 100 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and beloved uncle to many, many nieces and nephews, He is a true hero and loved all.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. Roell and Leona (Stegman) Roell; his loving wife, Wilma Bigler; his oldest daughter, Candida A. Martin-Henry; and by his siblings, Marina Steyer, Leo J. Roell, Lucille Hines, Bill Roell, Joe Roell, and Paula Roell.
Robert enlisted in the Army-Air Corp on December 27th, 1943, in order to serve his country during WWII. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan with a photo reconnaissance unit. He also served as a mechanic and supplies manager. He was honorably discharged from service on December 7th, 1946. His decorations and citations include the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal, Japan.
Robert retired after 47 years of service to L.S. Ayres and Company. He did several jobs, including driver, mechanic, fleet manager, and finally manager logistics.
Robert was a college graduate with an associate degree in business/accounting that he earned while working and raising his children.
He was active in The Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church as an usher for multiple years. Robert was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Robert spent most of his time striving to love and improve life for his family and others. His core belief was "If you save the family, you save the world".
He will be missed.
