Judith Ellen Morrison Garrabrant

October 17, 1954 — May 3, 2021

Another gentle soul has left this earth.

Judith Ellen Morrison Garrabrant, 66, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Monday, May 3, 2021, at Hendricks Regional Hospital in Danville, IN.

Judy was most known for her heart of gold. She was quick to volunteer to buy a birthday cake for a coworker or to put a few dollars in the Salvation Army buckets or the collection basket for visiting missionaries. Judy remembered every birthday, anniversary, and holiday, and always sent heartfelt cards with phrases underlined and double underlined and little notes in her meticulous handwriting.

Judy devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. “Get what you want,” was often uttered at Cracker Barrel or O’Charley’s, two of Judy’s favorite restaurants, and somehow toys and treats made their way into her grandsons’ hands “just because.” Judy was an excellent gift giver. Even when shopping at a dollar store, Judy knew how to find the right toy that seemed loved just a little longer.

Second to her family was her faith. Judy was a practicing Catholic who regularly attended mass pre-pandemic at Mary Queen of Peace in Danville.

Always the peacemaker, Judy’s kindness, compassion, and attentive listening made her the go-to person when anyone was struggling. Judy made others feel safe. Often friends and relatives sought Judy out for her compassionate listening skills, and she spent most evenings on the phone catching up with loved ones. Talking with Judy was like receiving a warm embrace, no matter the distance.

Born October 17, 1954, in Stamford, CT, Judy grew up the youngest of five siblings to the late Edward and Doris (Matsen) Morrison in Darien, CT. After graduating from Darien High School in 1973, Judy attended Roger Williams in Rhode Island. She began working at Citizens Bank in Stamford, CT, and fell in love with Raymond Garrabrant of Westerville, OH, while visiting her sister in Georgia. Ray and Judy were married in July of 1977, later moved to Indianapolis, IN, and had two children. The couple divorced in 1996. Judy transitioned from banking into the housing industry in the late 70s. Working her way up from leasing agent, apartment manager, and regional manager, Judy specialized in Section 42 compliance and spent many years working with companies to ensure residents qualified for below-market-value housing.

Judy is survived by her daughter Christine (Josias) Aguiar of Indianapolis, IN; son Thomas (Abby) Garrabrant of Danville, IN; three grandsons: Elijah, Maxwell, and Ezra; three brothers: William (Cathy) Morrison of Nokomis, FL; James (Nancy) Morrison of Waterbury, CT; and Robert Morrison of Meriden, CT; and numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Sheila Allen, and nephew Andrew Allen.

A funeral mass honoring Judy will take place at 10 a.m. on June 29, 2021, in Darien, CT, at St. John Church with a burial to follow at St. John’s cemetery.
