John Louis Guenther

John Louis Guenther (83) of Indianapolis, peacefully entered in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, July 6, 2020 at 7:02 PM. He was born on July 31, 1936 to Harvey and Pauline (Lundeen) Guenther in Galesburg, IL.

Mr. Guenther served Honorably during peacetime in the United States Army and was recipient of numerous decorations and commendations, a legacy passed to his sons Michael (U.S. Air Force veteran) and Jon (U.S. Army combat veteran). Military service long has and continues to be a proud tradition of the Guenther Family.

During most of his adult life, Mr. Guenther worked as an electrician and subsequently Development Engineer for AT&T Bell Laboratories, as well as managing a part-time electrical business for many years alongside his oldest son.

Mr. Guenther and wife at the time, Kay Guenther, moved to Indianapolis upon his retirement from Bell Laboratories (Naperville, IL). He served more than a decade after retirement as a school bus driver—enjoying the children he loved—while remaining an active citizen of his community, and an invaluable volunteer to the East Rawles Church of God where he met the man who would become his best friend, Pastor Ronald Polly.

He is survived by wife Betty Guenther (Indianapolis), brother Harvey Guenther, Jr. (Indianapolis), daughter Ann (Kevin) German (Dahinda, IL), and son Jon E. Guenther (Sarasota, FL). Additionally, he is survived by stepdaughters Cindy (Charlie) Flanagan and Terri Golden, stepson Ron (Debbie) Hess, four grandchildren and numerous descendants like the number of the sands.

Mr. Guenther was predeceased by his father, mother, two of four brothers, wife, children Linda (Robert) Kerr and Michael Allen, and beloved daughter-in-law Marilyn Yvonne (June 19, 2019) wife of his son, Jon.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 11th at 9:00 AM, East Rawles Church of God with services following at 10:00 AM Graveside internment will be at Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis, at 12:00 PM with active duty U.S. Army Honor Guard.
