John David Myers

July 14, 1957 — September 26, 2019

John David Myers, 62 (Heart of Gold and Love for the Lord Jesus Christ), of Indianapolis, Indiana, died September 26, 2019 at his Indianapolis home. His funeral service will be held at 1pm at Colonial Hills Baptist Church with visitation from 11am-1pm. Burial will follow after the service at Crown Hill Cemetery.
John was born July 14, 1957, in Schuyler, Nebraska to William and Miriam Myers. His parents moved frequently during his early years and settled in Indiana in1971 until they retired in Mountain Home, AR.
John was a 1975 graduate of Carmel High School. Following high school, he attended Purdue University. He took a break from college for a six (6) year tour in the US Navy on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Nuclear Powered Air Craft Carrier. After the Navy, John resumed school at Purdue and graduated in 1988 with a BA in Science.
After graduation, John worked a variety of jobs, which included: Auto Mechanic, Heating and Air Conditioning Technician, and as a foreman in the Orchard Industry. John treasured working with his hands and it showed in all of his various hobbies including gardening, breeding rabbits, woodworking, furniture upholstering and music. John was always learning and adding to his hobbies. However, John’s strongest passion was that of helping others. He helped anyone at anything at anytime.
John wed Barbara Jean Stewart in 1991. Barbara and John were a duo that loved the Lord Jesus Christ and were both extremely active with their church. Barbara was the outgoing talkative one and John the more reserved one. John took care of Barbara until she passed away from cancer in August 2013. After her passing, John inherited Barbara’s gift for gab and became a very talkative soul.
John visited Israel several times and was planning to move there until his parents started failing in health. He became their primary caregiver until their passing’s in 2016 and 2017.
Through everything that he did in his life, his first love was for the Lord. He was ready to be with Jesus, but his family was not ready to lose him.
He is survived by his sister Becky Hoover, brother Paul Myers and his spouse Ann of Indianapolis, sister Mary Britton and spouse Shawn of Orlando, and his nieces and nephew, Alicia Hoover, Bethany Britton and Ben Britton.
